Stepping Into The Dark@Schlosstheater

"Stepping into the Dark" is an album by the British field recorder Chris Watson, and the title of this year’s Concerts in the Dark. Curator Till Kniola places the emphasis on sound, which is said to reflect an extra-musical reality. In quadraphonic surround sound the audience experiences, aurally, melting ice, rustling forests, spurting geysers, Arctic ice storms and whirring lift shafts. In this journey of sound-created realism the seductive power lies in the darkness: every member of the audience embarks on the journey alone, carried along by his or her unique sense of hearing.
