Tal Ilan (IL) (in english)

The Jewish Festival of Shavuot (and Christian Pentecost): Where is it mentioned in the Bible? How is it connected to Ruth? How is it connected to Jesus?

Description: Jews celebrate Shavuot 7 weeks (or 50 days) after Passover. They give two reasons for it: An agricultural one and a historical one. The agricultural event celebrates the first wheat harvest. The historical event is the claim that on this day Moses received the Torah on Mt. Sinai. They also read the scroll of Ruth on this event. The Christians celebrate this event because it was on this Jewish festival that Jesus ascended into heaven.  This talk will dive in depth into all these issues. We also will look into the book of Ruth.
