MIKROSAIVO (DE / FR)
MIKROSAIVO is a band project founded by TOM LIWA consisting of four musicians:
DIDIER MALHERBE used to be a saxophonist and flutist with GONG. For many years
he dedicated his musical studies to the indian bamboo flute, then concentrated
on the armenian short oboe duduk which is his main instrument today- among others
with the band HADOUK (new album LE CINQUIEME FRUIT out since March 2018). DIDIER also recently released his second book of sonnets ESCAPADE EN FACILIE.
The percussionist NORA THIELE grew up in Leipzig and now lives in Berlin. She has
become specialized in frame drums and plays a self-developed, unique frame
drum set. NORA has been involved in projects as varied as a duo with iraqi oud-
player SAIF AL KHAYYAT and her band PLAYFORDS, combining contemporary folk and early rennaissance dance music. She is also artistic director of playground fes-
tival in weimar.
TOM LIWA recently released his 25th album GANZ NORMALE SONGS as a singer / songwriter. with MIKROSAIVO he plays a misused Roland AIRA TB3 bass synthesizer and sings exclusively in the constructed language halverstek.
DANIEL MASKOW, son of keyboarder Birgit Quentmeier and youngest member of the band, plays a second AIRA TB3.
MIKROSAIVO refers to the fictional tradition of halverstek folklore and language.
In halverstek elements of Quechua and Sami stand next to pure onomatopoeia. the term saivo comes from the conceptual world of the Noaides and means 'the spiritual sphere, which spatially surrounds our reality'. Musically the quartet is a dreamwalking affair between freak-out, affectionate pragmatism and constructive misunderstanding.
