Cath Roberts, Kate Carr, Iris Colomb (UK)

X perimental N counters / XN

Cath Roberts (electr), Kate Carr (electr), Iris Colomb (poet)

A new multidisciplinary collaboration between three UK-based artists whose paths have crossed on the London improvised/experimental music scene; Cath Roberts (electronics) joins field recordist Kate Carr (electronics, objects) and poet Iris Colomb (text, voice, objects). The long-form, textural work of Roberts and Carr's duo project ‘Quartz Sand’ evokes interlocking crystals and fossiliferous drift, with a debut recording due out on Flaming Pines later this year. Iris Comb's unique, interactive approach to text as instrument will take the trio into new territory as their path glitches and morphs; utterances and artifacts, gestures and convergence.

XN is a partnership project between the Moers Festival and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (= hcmf//) (UK). The project focuses on improvisation and brings together genres such as jazz, free improvisation, composition, and electronic music, with a particular emphasis on new, emerging artists. hcmf//, the largest international festival for contemporary music in the UK, provides a platform for innovative programming, offering artists worldwide opportunities for presentation and development. By fostering collaborations and artistic synergy, XN strengthens the European network of the new music scene.

XN is funded by the Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten mbH (GVL) and Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) with the support of the Goethe-Institut.
