Kapustin revisited (DE)

Roman Rofalski (p, electr), Paulina Sofie Kiss (electr)

“Kapustin revisited” is a musical and artistic statement on the music of the Ukrainian composer who died in 2020.
Nikolai Kapustin's music moves in the field of tension between his socialization with Soviet composers, his teachers at the Moscow Conservatory, among others, and his affinity for American jazz.
The pianist and composer Roman Rofalski has studied Kapustin's work intensively and, together with the composer and electronic performer Paulina Sofie Kiss, draws on the musical material itself. Pieces by Kapustin are looped live, cut up and reassembled with the help of digital alienation and granular synthesis. The originals are split into their musical cells and motifs, through which both performers then communicate with the possibilities of traditional and electronic improvisation, enriched with drones, samples, glitches and post-contemporary beats.
