Li Daiguo is a leading figure in China’s experimental and world music scenes. Born in Oklahoma in 1981 to Chinese/Taiwanese parents, he studied a wide range of instruments and styles from a young age. After moving to China in 2004, he developed a distinctive compositional voice using extended techniques on instruments like pipa, guzheng, cello, and prepared piano. His music blends polyrhythms, acoustic-electronic textures, and a sense of spiritual space. He has performed at major venues and festivals worldwide, including Cité de la Musique (Paris), Oct-Loft Jazz Festival (Shenzhen), Super Deluxe (Tokyo), and Desert Daze (USA). As a composer, he has been commissioned by Cloud Gate 2, Guangdong Modern Dance Company, and others. His work has been released on labels such as Modern Sky, Chant Records, and WV Sorcerer, and featured in The Wire, Pitchfork, and Tiny Mix Tapes. He also leads or collaborates on projects like Bubini Weilaiyin, bBb & bBb, and The Tea Rockers.
