Magnetic Speech of Trees and the Language of the Forest

Audio piece by Bella Comsom

Fahrradbühne im Schlosspark

European beech and linden: Using special antennas and recording equipment, Bella Comsom visited two typical European trees. The recordings of their electromagnetic fields were reproduced as soundscapes and acoustically layered: Now the sound of the trees blends with sounds from homemade electronic instruments and with field recordings from the Mata Atlântica, the Brazilian rainforest. Space and time blur; perspectives expand and shift.

Bella Comsom, born in 1988 in Rio de Janeiro, is an audiovisual artist who works at the intersection of art and science. Using homemade antennas, she explores connections between technology, nature, cosmology, and the spiritual. Her radio artworks, sound installations, and multilingual performances have been presented internationally.
