presence of a voice (ISL)

Lilja María Ásmundsdóttir (sound sculptures & electronics)

There is a sound artist named Lilja María Ásmundsdóttir, drawn to voices that are barely audible — those that seem to drift between air and memory. In her performance presence of a voice, an atmosphere unfolds that feels touched by another realm, where sound and light quietly converse. Inspired by fairy tales of lost or hidden voices, Lilja gives space to sounds that are rarely heard — gentle, remote, perhaps not entirely human.

At the center stands Hulda, a sound sculpture of strings, shadow, and color. When Lilja sets it in motion, the space begins to shift subtly: tones expand, threads of light move across walls, colors flow and transform. Inside, a delicate system responds to the frequencies of the notes, illuminating different shades of light — sometimes barely perceptible, sometimes flickering like distant northern lights. With each performance, new hues and patterns emerge — a quiet enchantment woven from sound, movement, and light.
