Bühne Kastellplatz

In a distant land called South Africa, Nduduzo Makhathini grew up in a family filled with music. As a child, he listened to the enchanted sounds of the churches and dreamed of creating worlds from tones. On journeys through his homeland and America, he gathered wisdom and inspiration. When his first Blue Note album, Modes Of Communication: Letters From The Underworlds (2020), appeared, it opened the gates to the wider musical world. In his songs, jazz and Zulu traditions intertwine, guided by the spirit of his ancestors and the voices of great musicians like Abdullah Ibrahim. Now Vince Mendoza has captured this magic for the WDR Big Band, letting its notes shimmer like shooting stars through the concert halls.
