Bühne Kastellplatz

KOJO is a creative project born from the encounter between Beninese Vodun traditions and European improvised music. Initiated by trumpeter and jazz musician Laurent Blondiau, KOJO has, since 2010, brought together horn players and Beninese artists around an in-depth exploration of rhythm, breath, and improvisation. The music is built on open structures, ritual cycles, and the energy of dance, leaving wide space for interaction and collective play. KOJO offers an expanded musical experience, where improvisation enters into dialogue with living traditions and contemporary forms. For the 2026 version, Laurent Blondiau develops a new musical writing that integrates textures and sound processing with more electronic accents, without abandoning the project’s organic grounding and rhythmic trance.
