Nate Wooley: After Nan Shepherd (2026) (US)

European premiere

Yarn/Wire: Laura Barger (p), Julia Den Boer (p), Russell Greenberg (perc), Dustin Donahue (perc) / Tara Khozein (voc) / Nate Wooley (tp)

Bühne Kastellplatz

The piece, inspired by Shepherd’s journeys in the Cairngorm Mountains and her book The Living Mountain, explores the tension between improvisation and composition, memory and storytelling. Four themes unfold in succession: first through traditional variations, then shaped by the performers - their voices, bodies, and improvisational gestures. For female voice, trumpet, two pianos, and two percussionists, rich and layered soundscapes emerge, punctuated at three climactic points by recitations from Shepherd’s texts.

This concert is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
