Nicole Mitchell’s Black Earth SWAY (US)

Black Earth SWAY, founded by award‑winning flutist Nicole Mitchell, sings liberation through Afro‑Folk‑Futurism. This multigenerational Chicago collective blends funk, blues, and experimental jazz into a new Black mythology filled with joy and freedom. As part of the AACM, BE SWAY explores the possibilities of Great Black Music. With a modernized diddley bow, cajón set, keyboards, piano, and electronically altered flute, they create a powerful, communal sound.
