Bühne Kastellplatz

Once upon a time, there was a secret society called SORBD, which came together from distant lands of free music. Word spread that five wonderful musicians spread their sounds like peacocks spreading their tails, each a master and bearer of her own musical voice. On the way to the lower Rhine, they could be heard ringing, sounding, and shining as if the notes themselves were speaking. There, their sounds flowed freely, sometimes wild and impetuous like a storm wind, sometimes gentle and orderly like the song of a nightingale. Sweet and tart melodies rang out, sometimes whispering, sometimes jubilant, and for a long time to come, people sang of the sequences of notes that had transformed their city into a soundscape. Courage and curiosity had dispelled any doubts—and everyone who had really listened to SORBD could feel it.

With SORBD, five musicians from the European improvised music and free jazz scene come together, each distinguished by a strong artistic identity. Their own sonic languages and their work on contemporary ensemble concepts characterize these five instrumentalists and composers. Improvisation in shifting constellations, combined with conceptual compositional sketches, creates a framework for highly interactive play, surprising noise textures, and vivid, sensuous soundscapes.
